M.I.C. Gadget’s Steve Lo has posted a compendium of iPad 3 rumorobilia, with all the purported specs covered and what he asys is an exclusive in depth look at the back shell of the iPad 3, claimed to be a production piece from one of his most reliable sources.
From a Chinese forum comes a gallery of photos claimed to be showing the production facilities for iPad 3 Retina display screens said to have been taken at Taiwan-based LCD backlight unit maker Radiant Opto-Electronics’ plant in Wujiang city.
There’s also the Chinese Weiphone forums shots of a prototype iPad 3 logic board showing an A5X system-on-a-chip.
Rounding up everything he’s seen and heard from his sources, Lo says he believes the specs of the new Apple tablet will include:
• A 9.7 inch 20481536 Retina Display.
• Possible quad core A6, but dual core for sure withprocessing power required for the Retina Display.
• A much improved camera, although maybe not be 8MP as production costs are high, but photos show the iPad 3 camera lens is noticeably larger than its predecessor
• The unit is expected to be about 1-1.5mm thicker depending on your model., but does fit inside some iPad 2 cases despite this, being only marginally thicker than the iPad 2, but with edges tapered and a narrower bezel.
• LTE/4G has been tested, but the market is limited, so perhaps we will not see anything outside of 3G connectivity.
• The memory capacities will stay the same at 16GB, 32GB and 64GB respectively.
• According to one of M.I.C. Gadget’s sources, a sub-$400 device with 7-inch screen is in development, and will be offered with a low voltage ARM processor, a powerful GPU, and a large battery, and targeted at developing nations like Brazil and China to compete with the smaller tablets, and with a Q4 release date in time for Christmas 2012.
