T3 Reviews MacBook Pro 13-inch Retina; Best Laptop Display But Value-Challenged

T3’s Richard Melville says the new MacBook Pro 13-inch is a genuine change in the world of high-end laptops with a Retina display and entirely flash based SSD memory, an Intel ivy Bridge Core i5 processor supported by 8GB of standard (non-upgradable) RAM and Intel’s integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU, but unfortunately limited to either the standard 128GB or optional (and pricy) 256GB – both a big drop from the standard (albeit slower) 500GB HDD storage that comes with the standard non-Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro.

However, Melville says once you’ve seen the Retina display, any other screen looks pedestrian by comparison.
He pronounces the MacBook Pro 13-inch Retina “the best MacBook yet” but it can’t offer the value of the old-school MacBook Pro, with 13-inch rMBP buyers paying almost 50 percent more for essentially the best laptop screen around and faster flash memory, an up-front capital cost differenve that could get you a non-retina MacBook Pro plus new iPad with a Retina display, iPad mini or an iPhone 5.
