OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8: Apple’s Last Serious Operating System For Creative Professionals?

CNET’s Josh Lowensohn reports that a media production pro who preferred not to be named since he’s part of Apple’s beta testing program for new and upcoming versions of its operating systems commented:

“For creative professionals,10.6.8 was the last true powerful operating system from Apple,” adding that “[OS X] 10.7 and 10.8 are like Microsoft’s Windows Vista — bloated, buggy blingware. They are focused so heavily on the consumer that they made the machines terribly inefficient for those using them eight to 10 hours a day.”

Alas, the anonymous commentator may have a salient point. The current version of OS X is 10.8.3, with release of OS X 10.9 expected sometime in the next few months and rumored to incorporate even more dumbed-down user interface characteristics crossed over from Apple’s iOS mobile operating system.
