The Microsoft Surface Team has announced a special offer for customers in Canada and the United States, who for a limited time beginning May 31st, receive a free Touch Cover, Touch Cover Limited Edition, or Type Cover, with the purchase of a Microsoft Surface RT tablet PC.
Normally, the Surface Touch Cover with touch keyboard and available in five colors, sells for $120, while the Type Cover with a laptop-like mechanical keyboard is $130. (No-brainer here for just an extra ten bucks – Ed.)
Touch and Type Cover both protect and personalize your Surface RT as well as helping you get real work done – a keyboard that goes everywhere with you.
There is a different Surface RT offer available to Western European customers in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK, who will be limited to either the black Type Cover or the Touch Cover in black, cyan, or white. North American customers get a wider choice of colors and designs.
Unfortunately, Surface Pro customers are still obliged to pay full retail for their keyboard covers. The Register’s Neil McAllister cites analyst firm Canalys metrics estimating that Microsoft shipped roughly 722,000 Surface RT models during the fourth quarter of 2012, which included the holiday shopping season while Apple shipped more than 22 million iPads during the same period.
