80 Percent Of Reduced iPad Shipments Attributable To Channel Inventory Decline

With rumors of the forthcoming iPad 5 having been rife for months, is it any wonder that sales of the iPad 4 have been flagging a bit this summer? However, Appleinsider’s Neil Hughes also notes that Apple drew down its iPad channel inventory by 1.9 million units during the June quarter, which accounted for the lion’s share of the year-over-year decrease the company reported in iPad shipments in its financials conference call on Tuesday.

Another point in year-over-year metrics; while this was the first instance of June quarter iPad sales declining, it is also the first year that there has been no new iPad model introduction in late winter or spring, with the last new model release having been October 23, 2012.
