TheSnugg iPad Case Cover and Stand – ‘Book Mystique Review

One of the most useful categories of iPad cases are the slipcover types whose cover flap flips over and folds to form a wedge-shaped stand that makes for more comfortable typing and gesturing on your lap or another surface. There are several of these on the market, such as models from Acme Made and iPevo, with their respective approaches to cover-folding. They make using the iPad much more comfortable, as well as offering light to medium protection for the device.

TheSnugg iPad case and stand that’s the subject of this review is another variation on the foldable flap flipcase theme, made of stiff enough polyurethane (PU) “leather” that it can also be shifted 180° to support the iPad in near-upright orientation for use within an external keyboard or for hands-free watching movies, videos, and such.

The Snugg case’s design follows the category’s general characteristics, but adds features such as a Velcro strip to positively secure the iPad its sleeve rather than depending solely on tucking a retaining flap under the age of the tablet, although I’ve never personally had any trouble with the latter-mentioned arrangement.

Converting to stand mode is quick and easy, requiring only one extra case cover flap fold, and the outer edge of the cover slipped into a retaining tab on the back of the case. Re-conversion to case cover mode is even quicker, and can be executed without looking.

TheSndugg case stand is available in an extensive array of colors and themes including businesslike basic black or white, and ranging to flamboyant orange or pink. Our test unit was the “Blue Denim” model, with inserts of the eponymous fabric over polyurethane leather on the front and back of the case. Workmanship and materials are first rate, with neat stitching, embossed and inlaid Snugg logos, and a generally high standard of fit and finish. The Blue Denim motif looks sharp and harmonizes with my usual attire.

The evident quality is backed up by a lifetime guarantee. TheSnugg says that if you experience a problem with the case through no fault of your own over the lifetime of the unit, they will replace it with a brand-new one, provided that you’ve registered for the guarantee.

Other thoughtful features include a magnetic closure that secures the flap cover when in cover mode and automatically wakes it up when the cover is opened, and a handy pen/pencil/stylus retaining loop at one end of the case and an elastic handle embedded in the cover flap. The charge/connector port, the for the rear camera, and all control buttons remain accessible with the iPad in situ.

TheSnugg claims that its cases are Amazon’s best-sellers in the USA, UK, Germany, France and Japan, and that they have supplied custom branded cases to Cadillac, GMC, and the CIA. With half a million units sold in the last 12 months, and a TheSnugg case purchased every 30 seconds.

The Snugg case is a bit bulkier and some other examples of the type I’ve used, attributable to the robustness of protection it offers, and the panel stiffness required to support the tablet in upright mode. I’ll give TheSnugg iPad Case Cover and Stand a 4 out of 5 rating.

This TheSnugg iPad Case Cover and Stand is available in sizes to custom-fit the new iPad Air, the full-size iPad 2, 3, and 4, the original 9.7 – inch iPad, the original iPad mini, and the new iPad mini 2 with Retina display. There are also similar Snugg cases available for the iPhone 5, 5s, and 5c. A separate Snugg car headrest mount combines with the Snugg device covers to serve as in-car entertainment center. The nominal list price for full-sized TheSnugg iPad cases is $44.99, but some models and colors are featured at $34.99, and $29.99 when the iPad mini cases sell for $39.99, with various discounts for some models.
