According to Statista’s Niall McCarthy citing a Gartner inc. market projection, 1.36 billion Android devices are expected to ship in 2015 — more than all other mobile and PC operating systems combined. Android has come a long way since 2012, with something over 500 million devices powered by Google’s operating system (as opposed to approachng 200 million iOS-powered iPads) were shipped around the world. McCarthy notes Android is being driven by third parties such as Samsung and LG, and its tremendous success is set to emulate that of Windows PCs during the 1990s.
