Apple iPad Air 2; iPad Mini 3 Set For Release In Q3 2014 – Analyst

Ecumenical News’s Aira Quintana cites KGI Securities analyst and frequently accurate Apple product release predictor Ming-Chi Kuo projecting that upgraded Apple tablets are set for release most likely in September.

Changes are expected to be almost entirely internal, save for changes in button design and the Home button, and the addition of iPhone 5s style TouchID and fingerprint recognition technology. There’s pretty strong consensus among prognosticators that the new machines will also feature a new quad-core A8 system on chip, but the Retina displays will continue at their current 2048 x 1536 resolution in 7.9 and 9.7 – inch versions, with the iPhone 5s’s 8 megapixel snapshooter displacing the current models’ 5MP module.

Quintana says rumor mills are predicting that iPad Mini 3 could be priced somewhere between $400 and $500 when it launches in Q3/14, which would be price hike from the current $399, which would seem an odd strategy given the brutal price competition in sub 8-inch tablets these days.

Apple may be rationalizing that the upgraded features provide enough value-added to justify a mini price increase, butit woul be prudent for them to ponder Microsoft’s reported recent termination of an 8-inch Surface tablet PC model presumed to be due to the average global price of smaller branded tablets now being about $100, and “white box” units approximately half that much.
