Intel To Launch Core M Silicon For Use In Notebooks And Tablet 2-in-1s in 4Q/14

Digitimes’ Monica Chen and Joseph Tsai, report that Intel will launch 14nm-based Core M series processors specifically for use in fanless notebook/tablet 2-in-1 models in Q4 2014, with many models to be exhibited at the Intel Developer Forum to take place in San Francisco September 9-11, 2014, according to supply chain makers.

Not mentioned in the report, the rumored new 12-inch MacBook Air will also reportedly be a fanless unit, which gives us reeason to speculate that it may also be Core M powered.

Chen and Tsai say Intel will release five processors under the Core M series initially to replace its seven 22nm Haswell-based processors that are currently used across Apple’a entire notebook line, and that following the Core M release, the chipmaker’s 14nm Broadwell CPUs will become available in 2015, and that it will also upgrade its existing 22nm Haswell processors including Core i7-4960HQ and Core i5-4200H in Q4 2014, with the M series supplementing the 22nm Haswell-based processors until Q3 2015.
