iPad Air 2 Component Production Ramps Up In Supply Chain – Digitimes

Digitimes’ Sammi Huang and Alex Wolfgram report that East Asian supply chainsk are ramping up production of components to be used in Apple’s soon-to-be-released next-generation 9.7-inch iPad.

Huang and Wolfgram cite touch panel makers TPK and GIS as being among some of the OEM suppliers receiving orders from Apple for full-lamination units. Their anonymous insider sources tell them the new model will remain unchanged in terms of size and resolution, but be thinner, equipped with an faster and more powerful processor, and contain improved fingerprint recognition features. Hopefully, the System-on-chip upgrade will include more RAM, as the iPad’s 1 GB RAM configuration is beginning to look awfully puny.

The reporters also note that as Apple gears up to release the new Air, c conservative outlooks for tablet shipments in the second half of 2014 from various vendors, many non-Apple supply chains expect limited orders during the second half.P The sources also noted that in terms of the iPhone, Sharp, Japan Display and LG Display are seeing orders increase as well.
