LIkely Final Definitive OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks Update Available
Apple has released what will almost certainly be the last incremental version number update of OS X 10.9 Mavericks (save for futire security updates) before OS X 10.10 Yosemite is released next month.
The quickest, low-hassle way to upgrade to OS 10.9.5 is via Software Update (in your Apple Menu). However, freestanding 10.9.5 installers are also available for download and offline installs.
I used to be an advocate of always using the freestanding Combo updater version, even if you’re only going up one fractional update (in this instance 10.9.4.to 10.9.5) and I still am in theory, although I’ve taken to using Software Update for Mountain Lion and Mavericks. However, since this is likely to be the definitive final Mavericks update, I think there’s still a case to be made for running a Combo update, especially if you intend on continuing to run Mavericks for a while.
The OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 Update (Combo) update:
• Improves the reliability of VPN connections that use USB smart cards for authentication
• Improves the reliability of accessing files located on an SMB server
• Includes Safari 7.0.6
• [Enterprise] Fixes an issue with group membership in large network groups, that also might prevent administrators from performing some administrative tasks successfully.
• [Enterprise] Allows for faster authentication when roaming on 802.1x networks which use EAP-TLS.
