Al Pacino: Why Would Anyone Want To Watch Full-length Films On An iPhone?

I share Al Pacino’s conviction that watching full length movies on a smartphone, or for that matter a tablet, is a fourth-rate experience. I will very occasionally watch a one-hour TV program on my iPad, but balk at movie viewing on small screens.

Mr. Pacino, one of my favorite actors, was quoted this week by The Telegraph’s Anita Singh and Katy Balls lamenting the trend away from cinema viewing, and observing that watching films on a smartphone, tablet or laptop means viewers can miss the nuance in an actor’s expression — “I mean, who wants to watch movies on iPhones? I’m so tired of that,” — comment that drew applause from an audience at the British Film Institute, where he received the BFI Fellowship.

I do also concur with Mr. Pacino that an exception would be watching a film during a long flight, because there you have no other choice, and you’re in close-coupled confines anyway. Otherwise, not interested.
