A9 Chips Already?

It’s barely more than a couple of months since Apple got the first A8 systems-on-chip into consumer hands, but rumor and news focus is already turning to the next-generation A9 SoC.

Apple Daily Report’s Dennis Sellers cites the global investment news service BrightWire in turn citing Taiwan-based United Daily News unnamed “industry insiders” saying Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is expected to commence A9 production in July, 2015, and that the giant chip foundery is expected to supply nearly 80 percent of Apple’s A9 SoC orders, at least in the early going. That of course would be consistent with the next generation of iPhones and iPads being on track for release in the customary late-summer/fall time slots.

The report contains no particulars on A9 specifications.
