Apple Supply Chain Gears Up To Begin New MacBook Air And Apple Watch Production In Q1/15 – Report

Digitimes’ Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai report that with a pilot production to be completed by the year end 2014, mass production of Apple’s next-generation 12-inch MacBook Air is expected to ramp up in the first quarter of 2015, according to unnamed sources from Apple,s upstream supply chain, with the Apple Watch production also expected to begin at about the same time,

Lee and Tsai say the new MacBook Air is powered by Intel’s next-generation Broadwell family of of Core I processors and enclosed in a clean slate new chassis design that reducees the laptop’s thickness and weight. However, their sources report that mass production startup has been delayed by low yield rates that are gradually being resolved, mass production is expected to come in the first quarter of 2015, the sources explained.

According to the report, the 12-inch MacBook Air will target the market high-end and keep Apple firmly ensconced as leader in ultra-thin notebook technology, so it’s likely that the current 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Airs will remain in production for the foreseeable future as price leader laptop models.
