Apple Mac System Shipments To Grow 10-15% in 2015 — Taiwan ODM Insider Sources Project

Digitimes’ Aaron Lee and Steve Shen report that shipment volumes of Apple’s Macintosh PC systems will outperform the industry average in 2015 — a repeat of Apple’s 2014 Apple PC performance. Total shipments of Mac notebooks and desktops are projected to grow 10-15% year-over-year to 20-23 million units in 2015, up from 19.59 million units shipped last years according to insider sources at the Taiwan-based supply chain ODMs that manufacture the computers

Lee and Shen note that Apple Mac shipments for the fourth quarter of 2014 and for all of 2014 logged increases of 14.09% and 14.43%, respectively, from 2013 metrics, while global PC shipments overall declined by 2.4% and 2.1%, respectively, during the same periods.

In 2015 global PC shipments are expected to drop another 3.3% compared with an estimated 10-15% shipment growth for Apple PCs according to Digitimes Research.

Additionally, anticipated release of the long-rumored 12-inch MacBook Air is expected to further expand and deepen Apple’s product lineup and consequently enable Apple with more flexibility to tinker with its pricing strategy, the insider sources tell Lee and Shen, suggesting that Cupertino will likely lower prices on its current 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air models after the launch of the new 12-inch Air.
