New MacBook Sales Unlikely To Exceed 450,000 During 1H15 – Report

Digitimes’ Alex Wolfgram reports that according to Taiwan-based Tech News, Apple’s new 12-inch scheduled for release on April 10 will be unlikely to surpass 450,000 in sales during the first half of 2015 due to continuing limited demand for notebooks combi with production slowdowns of Retina display panels,.

Wolfgram noes that the report cites projections by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo pointing to in addition to not only weak demand for notebooks in the first half, but also Retina display production slowdowns at Apple’s two main panel suppliers LG Display and Samsung Display.

He further notes that MacBook production has sluggish ramoling up with just 160,000 units reportedly having been assembled by Apple’s ODM subcontractor Quanta, using panels sourced from Samsung Display. However, he says production is expected to pick up in April when LG Display will commence producing a targeted 120,000 displays per month for the device.
