Kickstarter Crowdfunding Launched For Ultimate MacBook USB-C Docking Station

With just one USB-C port on Apple’s new 12-inch Retina MacBook laptops, a docking station will be an essential add-on for many users.

Startup Plugable’s dock design allows MacBook 2015 users to connect up to three additional monitors and four extra USB devices to the computer’s single USB-C port, while retaining full charging power. The dock will also work with any of the coming generation of USB-C devices, including the Google Chromebook Pixel 2015.

“With just one or two ports on USB-C computers, a docking station is essential,” says Plugable Founder Bernie Thompson, a former Microsoft USB and Bluetooth engineer. “The challenge is in solving the power and connectivity demands, and we’ve focused on a no-compromise solution.”

With a space-saving vertical design, the Plugable Ultimate Docking Station will transform a MacBook into a desktop replacement via that single USB-C port, providing connections for one 4K monitor, two 2K monitors, and four USB-C devices.

“No one yet, including Apple, provides a solution that does all this and includes a power adapter,” Thompson observes.

Recently introduced competitive docking stations rely on the MacBook’s 29-watt power adapter to power both laptop and dock. This can cause devices to lose power and can affect the power supply’s lifespan.

Last summer Plugable launched a successful Kickstarter for its unique UD-PRO8 docking station. Plugable Technologies was founded in 2009 in a garage not far from Microsoft’s headquarters and the house where Jeff Bezos started Amazon.
