Ports And Adapters For 12-inch Retina MacBook

Apple has posted a brief tutorial — just a memo really — about the various ports and adapters that can be used (and some of which most users will need) with the new MacBook Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015.

The diminutive MacBook famously has just two built-in I/O ports: a lone USB-C port plus a headphone jack.

The USB-C port takes over from the elegant and MagSafe connector to charge the computer, using the Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter and USB-C Charge Cable that comes with the MacBook.

The busy USB-C port also supports data transfer and video out, either by connecting to USB-C devices, or via a USB-C adapter to connect displays and other standard USB devices.

With appropriate adapters respectively you can connect via the USB-C port to HDMI and VGA displays, TVs, projectors, and to other USB devices such as iPhones, iPads, and iPods for charging and syncing. Also to USB devices such as cameras, hard drives, and thumb drives for transferring data

The headphone jack can be used to connect external speakers and headphones, mans the port also supports iPhone compatible headsets (with microphone and remote).
