Apple Watch Component Reserves Projected To Remain High Until September – Digitimes

Digitimes’ Julian Ho and Joseph Tsai report that component reserves for the Apple Watch are expected to remain high until September due to lower-than-expected sales, according to their sources in the OEM supply chain.

The insiders pointed out that back-to-school demand and year-end holiday sales should boost Apple Watch shipments in the second half, helping offset the device’s unsatisfactory performance in the first.

However, Ho and Tsai note that analysts and market watchers hold different views about the wearable device’s potential sales in 2015 with some expecting volumes to reach only 15 million and some 20-30 million units.

However, notwithstanding Apple Watch’s weaker-than-expected sales, they note that iPhone 6 smartphones continued to perform strongly for Apple in the first half, putting strong pressure on its smartphone competitors.
