After William Tyndale (c.1494–1536) — the first person to print an English language New Testament and a martyr of Christian history, completed his studies in Greek, he had “one fixed aim of his life — to put an English translation of the original Greek and Hebrew Scriptures, into the hands of his countrymen. ‘If God spared him life,’ he said, ‘ere many years he would cause a boy that driveth a plow to know more of the Scriptures than the Pope did'” (J.
