As had been widely rumored and anticipated for months, Apple on Monday released a new 9.7-inch iPad Pro and a new classic sized iPhone with state of the art power and features. Also released March 21 were OS X El Capitan10.11.4 and iOS 9.3 updates.

The new 9.7-inch iPad Pro retains the weight, dimensions and battery life of the iPad Air 2, which remains available for $399, but features a new pro Retina display with about 25 percent greater brightness, wider color gamut, and lower reflectivity, the 64-bit A9X system-on-chip from the 12-inch iPad Pro with 1.8 GHz clock speed and 4GB of RAM (twice the Air 2’s 2 GB), a 12-megapixel rear-facign iSight camera with True Tone flash and a 5-megapixel FaceTime HD front-facing camera, a four-speaker audio system twice as powerful as the iPad 2’s audio, support for playing video encoded with Dolby Digital Plus, LTE Advanced with up to 50 percent faster cellular connectivity, and support for Apple’s Pencil stylus and a new smaller-sized Smart Keyboard cover designed to fit the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro comes in silver, space gray, gold and a new rose gold metallic finish, and starts at $599 (US) for the 32GB with Wi-Fi model and $729 (US) for the 32GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model. Both iPad Pro sizes are available in offerings of 32GB, 128GB and a new 256GB capacity,

The new iPhone SE replaces the unloved plastic enclosure iPhone C and brings back the classic iPhone form factor with a four-inch display in a compact aluminum design that has been updated with matte-chamfered edges, a color-matched stainless steel Apple logo, and is also available in four metallic finishes, including rose gold. iPhone SE is powered by the same 64-bit A9 chip offered in iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, claiming three times faster GPU performance compared to iPhone 5s, concurrent with gains in energy efficiency for improved battery life, faster LTE and Wi-Fi, a 12-megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash, Live Photos, 4K video, and Touch ID with Apple Pay.

iPhone SE will be available in space gray, silver, gold and rose gold metallic finishes in 16GB and 64GB models starting at $399 (US) from Apple’s retail stores, Apple.com, Apple Authorized Resellers and select carriers, or for 24 monthly payments starting at $17 (US) exclusively at Apple’s retail stores in the US.** As part of the newly-announced Trade Up with Installments program at Apple stores in the US, customers can also purchase iPhone SE for as low as $10/month for 24 months.***

Customers in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK, US Virgin Islands and the US will be able to order iPhone SE beginning Thursday, March 24, with availability beginning Thursday, March 31.

iOS 9.3 introduces Night Shift mode that changes display color balance automatically based on the clock and geolocation monitoring, making them warmer at night, and new True Tone display technology to dynamically adjust white balance.

iOS 9.3 also adds support for playing video encoded with Dolby Digital Plus audio streams with support for multichannel output using the Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter

Also new is Touch ID support for the Notes app, Health app suggestions, and changes to News that enable easier personalization of trending topics and Editors’ picks. Car Play now supports more than 100 different models, and Education Preview adds a new suite of apps designed for administrators, teachers and students.

OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 patches dozens of system vulnerabilities, squashes a Safari bug that prevented the browser from opening Twitter’s t.co links, adds password protection to Notes, increases USB reliability and adds support for Apple’s animated Live Photo files.

  • Fixes an issue that prevents Migration Assistant from opening when automatic login has been disabled using a configuration profile
  • Fixes an issue that prevents Mail from showing the date and time of certain Microsoft Exchange calendar events
  • Provides compatibility with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client
  • Improves the reliability of connecting to a Personal Hotspot via Wi-Fi
