Plugable Launches First Complete USB-C Dock Line For 12-inch MacBook

USB hardware maker Plugable Technologies today launched the industry’s first wave of USB-C docking stations with both Power Delivery and DisplayPort Alternate Mode support.

These features require hardware support in both the host system and the device. The Plugable UD-CA1 Docking Station ($129 – available today) integrates support for both of these new capabilities, along with the full set of standard USB docking features like wired network, audio, and extra USB ports.

The Plugable UD-ULTCDL dock ($179 – available soon) builds on this, adding support for two additional displays (for a total of three) using DisplayLink USB virtual graphics technology.

Apple 12 Retina MacBook 2015/2016 users have been eager for this kind of dock to come to market to connect additional monitors and extra USB devices while continuing to charge through the MacBook’s single USB-C port. These docks will also work with many coming USB-C laptops and tablets, including specific Chromebooks and many Windows laptops based on Intels 6th generation (Skylake) CPU technology.
