Global Tablet Shipments Projected to Increase More Than 16% In Third Quarter 2016 But Overall Outlook Still Poor – Digitimes

Digitimes’ Jim Hsiao reports that global tablet shipments will increase by 16.3 percent sequentially to reach nearly 47 million units in 2016’s third quarter, but that volume will still be down over 10 percent compared to the same quarter a year ago, showing the market is still in no condition of recovering, according to Digitimes Research.

Hsaio explains that sequential shipment growth is attributable to vendors ramping up inventory for the year-end holiday seasons in Europe and North America and the fact that several emerging markets are enjoying improved economies, which has increased tablet demand somewhat

He also notes that in spite of ongoing absence of new iPad models for the second half of 2016, Apple tablet shipments will dip only slightly year-over-year to 9.5 million units in the third quarter, attributable to steady demand for 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
