iPad mini 5 In The Works After All?

Does Apple, contrary to some rumor streams, have an iPad mini 5 or iPad mini pro in the pipeline?

PC Advisor’s Marie Brewis thinks maybe so, suggesting a possible March 2017 launch date alongside the iPad Pro 2 models, which are expected to include a new 10.5-inch panel iPad that is the main focus of current Apple tablet speculation.

In a thoroughgoing rumors roundup Brewis notes that the smallest iPad hasn’t been updated since the iPad mini 4 was released on 9 September 2015.

She suggests that a 5th iPad mini revision would posssibly include 32-, 64- and 128GB variants, and says Apple is rumored to be using Series 7000 aluminum for a new iPad mini — the same enclosure material it uses for the iPhone 6S, and stiffer and lighter than the lower grade aluminum used in most of its other products, helping the new mini to maintain structural rigidity with its thickness reduced to 5mm. The current 7.9in Retina display is expected to be carried-over.

Other rumored changes include a Rose Gold colour option, 3D Touch, Apple A9 system-on-chip and M9 motion co-processor, standard 32GB storage with 64 and 128GB model available a smaller-capacity battery in order to fit into a 5mm housing, but improved battery technology keeping runtime roughly the same as the iPad 4, an 8Mp rear-facing camera, perhaps no headphone port, and NFC ApplePay support
