Otter Products is Closing… For a Day of Giving

On Thursday, Feb. 9, Otter Products is closing doors to open hearts. In partnership with the OtterCares Foundation, the company is pausing operations for a day so all employees can volunteer with organizations that inspire kids to change the world. Otter Products will be closed2open.

“The Otter Products’ corporate mission is ‘we grow to give,'” says Otter Products Founder and Chief Visionary Officer Curt Richardson. “We believe that to whom much is given, much is expected. We are fortunate to have experienced success in our business, so giving back to our community is the right thing to do.”

Giving back has been at the core of Otter Products since it was founded in 1998. Company co-founder Nancy Richardson formed the OtterCares Foundation in 2010 to formalize the charitable activities. OtterCares champions innovative education, grants and programs that teach philanthropy and entrepreneurship to kids the ultimate investment in the future.

“Because of the DNA of Otter, Curt and I chose to focus the company’s corporate giving on inspiring young entrepreneurs and philanthropists,” says OtterCares Foundation founder Nancy Richardson. “If we can teach kids to be entrepreneurial and philanthropic at a young age, it will become part of the fabric of who they are. It is then that we can truly create a movement that changes the world.”

OtterCares also acts as a conduit for employee volunteering. Since 2010, all Otter Products employees have received 24 hours of volunteer time off per year to make a difference for local non-profits. The company had an 86 percent participation rate in its volunteer program in 2016, compared to a national average rate of 56 percent for businesses with corporate giving programs.(1) This year, the company is adding its closed2open volunteer day in order to increase its volunteer impact and raise awareness for the importance of giving back.

Follow along on social media with #closed2open. Otter Products invites other companies and individuals to join in on Feb. 9 and beyond to close their doors and open their hearts. Care to join in?
