B-Eng introduces SSD Health Check for Mac OS

Fehraltorf, Switzerland based independant Swiss company- B-Eng has announced the release and immediate availability of SSD Health Check 1.0, the company’s new hard drive utility for Mac OS X. As the name implies, SSD Health check is able to alert the user when their solid state disk is in a critical state or reaches other critical limits. SSD Health Check reports data such as operating temperature, unexpected power losses and power cycles as well as the number of uncorrectable errors and wear level count or parameters such as erase fail count.

“A lot of people are not aware that an SSD fails over time as well, even if are mechanically more stable than a conventional hard disk,” says Christian Schaffner, General Manager of B-Eng. “While a conventional hard disk may break due to mechanical impact and general wear of the mechanical components, a solid state disk has a limited life time due to the repeated write cycles. Power losses, high operating temperature and excessive writing/erasing for example are shortening the life span of an SSD even more. While SSD Health Check doesn’t increase the life span of a solid state disk, it may deliver critical information that allows the user to replace their SSD before it becomes unreliable or even dies.”

System Requirements:
* OS X 10.7 or later
* 64-bit processor
* 3.0 MB

SSD Health Check 1.0 is $0.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide through the Mac App Store in the Utilities category.
