New High-End $1,000+ 5.8-Inch iPhone With Glass Chassis Rumored

Digitimes’ Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai report that according to unnamed sources from the upstream supply chain, Apple is expected to release three new generation iPhones for 2017, with 4.7-inch, 5.5-inch, and 5.8-inch models on offer.

The 5.8-inch model is expected to be a high-end product (perhaps aimed at displacing the iPad mini?) with a chassis of reinforced glass over a stainless steel frame, with an OLED screen, selling at a price projected to be north of US$1,000, further blurring the distinction between large smartphone and small tablet.

The insiders say the 4.7-inch iPhone will continue with aluminum-alloy construction, and which way they will go with the 5.5-inch model’s chassis material has yet to be determined.
