Windows RT+Office RT Takes Up 12GB Disk Space

OS News’s Thom Holwerda cites a tidbit from the Reddit AMA session with Microsoft’s Surface team, noting that it turns out that while Windows 8 RT is considerably smaller than its Windows 7 x86 predecessor, it’s still huge by mobile standards, requiring 12GB of memory capacity for the OS, Office RT 2013, and “a bunch of apps”.

Holwerda observes that this compares rather unfavourably to its competition, with Android Jelly Bean needing 340MB for kernel and userspace and the iOS reportly less than 1GB in size.

Kinda’ brings the base model Microsoft Surface RT tablet’s 32 GB of memory compared with Apple’s 16 GB for the same price into clearer perspective.
