Retina iPad mini Coming Next Year – Rumor

Chinese-language blogsite DoNews’s Xue Fei reports that according to a DoNews reporter, panel maker and Apple supplier AUO is to develop a Retina panel with resolution of up to 2048 x1536 pixel resolution and a dot pitch of “up to 497ppi” for use in the next generation iPad mini – which would far exceed even the new 4th-generation iPad’s 264 pixels per inch (ppi). Actually, a 7.9-inch panel with 2048 x1536 resolution would have a (still impressive) pixel density of 326ppi.

Xue Fei projects that the Retina mini will be announced in the second half of 2013, with volume shipment beginning in the fourth quarter of next year.

Other rumors suggest that Apple will incorporate Sharp’s advanced IGZO screen technology in the iPad mini 2
