Apple’s MacBook Air Most Popular Thin-and-light Laptop – Accounting For More Than Half Of Category Sales

Macworld UK’s Ashleigh Allsopp reports that Apple’s MacBook Air is the most popular thin-and-light laptop available, according to NPD Group analyst Stephen Baker cited by CNET’s Brooke Crothers saying the MacBook Air accounted for 56 percent of all thin-and-light laptop sales in the US during the first five months of 2013,

And those metrics all date from before Apple substantially upgrading its MacBook Air models, launched at WWDC in June with Intel’s new fourth generation “Haswell” Core i processors, which offer both speedier performance and a more efficient thermal profile that allows the Air to run cooler, and extends battery life into territory previously associated with tablets, faster Intel HD Graphics 5000 IGPUs, faster 802.11ac WiFi, flash SSDs claimed to be up to 45 percent faster than the previous generation’s, the base $999 11-inch models now feature double the previous model’s standard storage capacity, and the base price of 13-inch models drops to $1,099 – a $100 price reduction.
