iMore’s Richard Devine notes that the MacBook Pro Retina makes pretty heavy demands on battery life with all those pixels being pushed around on that gorgeous display. He observes that at the time of writing, his 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina was showing 2 hours 43 minutes remaining on an 80% charge, and he’s been struggling to get much over 3.5 hours total usage before having to look for a wall outlet. However, he says that with a bit of searching around and he’s found a couple of solutions that should improve your rMBP battery life, and offers a short tutorial.

Nevertheless, your editor observes that if battery life is of first-rank importance to you, better opt for a Haswell MacBook Air.
