New iPad Rumors Project A 7.9-inch iPad Pro Replacement For iPad mini

Japanese Apple watcher site Macotakara reports that unnamed “well-placed sources” are saying the first revision of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro will get a 12 million pixel iSight camera, True Tone flash, and the True Tone display technology introduced last spring with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Those upgrades are pretty much what one would expect, but contradicting widespread expectations, Macotakara’s sources say there will also be a 7.9-inch iPad Pro model to replace the iPad mini 4 — an iPad size category that had been written off by many prognosticators. They also say the new 7.9-inch iPad will get a Smart Connector and four audio speakers, as well as the 12 million pixel iSight camera, True Tone flash, and True Tone display.

The report also agrees with a recent research note by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo saying a new size iPad model is in the works. According to the highly respected Kuo, who has a strong track record of accuracy in making Apple hardware predictions: “We expect three new iPads: (12.9” iPad Pro 2, new size 10.5” iPad Pro and low-cost 9.7” iPad) to be launched in 2017.” Macotakara’s sources say the revised iPads will retain a standard 3.5-mm headphone jack, and will ship in the spring of 2017.
