Patient Safety Movement Foundation Launches Free PatientAider App

The Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF) has announced that it has launched the PatientAider app for iPhone and Android users. Now available for download in the Apple App StoreApple App Store and Google Play Store, PatientAider is designed to cut through confusing medical jargon to provide plain-English explanations of medical terms, protocols, and risks that hospital patients may encounter. The unique, easy-to-use app was designed by Mari Miceli, a registered nurse, and developed by John McConnell. Miceli generously donated PatientAider to the PSMF.

A valuable source of medical information, PatientAider offers clinically curated content to help patients and their loved ones navigate their hospital care.

PatientAider app features include:

• Strategies for communication with nurses and doctors
• Information about common medical errors made in hospitals
• Helpful videos from clinical experts
• Links to dive more deeply into each topic
• Stress-reduction techniques

Patient participation is key, and it is often limited by a persons understanding of their diagnosis and plan of care,” said patient advocate Misti Baskett. “The PatientAider app facilitates knowledge and assists the patient and provider in sharing the same goals in their treatment plan to improve patient outcomes. With the app, patients can prepare the questions they need to ask their doctors prior to their appointment time. It is my hope that PatientAider becomes an indispensable household tool that educates everyone on the importance of patient participation.”

More than 200,000 people die every year in U.S. hospitals and 3 million worldwide in ways that could have been prevented.
