Apple upgrades 14-inch MacBook Pros with new M5 chip, keeps M4 Pro and M4 Max models
Apple has introduced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip, bringing major improvements in performance, efficiency, and AI capabilities. The M5 features a next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator in every core, providing up to 3.5 times faster AI performance and up to 1.6 times faster graphics than the previous generation. It also includes a faster CPU, an enhanced Neural Engine, and greater memory bandwidth, which helps speed up everything from app launches to running large language models directly on the device.
Battery life remains a strong point, lasting up to 24 hours on a single charge. The updated storage system also delivers faster SSD performance for tasks like importing large image files or exporting video projects.
The MacBook Pro continues to offer many of the features users expect: a Liquid Retina XDR display (with a nano-texture glass option), a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, a six-speaker sound system, multiple ports, Apple Intelligence tools, and the latest macOS Tahoe.
Despite the upgrades, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 keeps the same starting price of $1599. It’s available in space black and silver, with pre-orders open now and general availability beginning October 22.
Here are some of the performance comparisons Apple highlights:
* AI video enhancement (Topaz Video): up to 7.7 times faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, and up to 1.8 times faster than the 14-inch model with M4.
* 3D rendering (Blender): up to 6.8 times faster than the M1 model, and up to 1.7 times faster than M4.
* Gaming: up to 3.2 times higher frame rates than M1, and up to 1.6 times faster than M4.
* Code compiling (Xcode): up to 2.1 times faster than M1, and up to 1.2 times faster than M4.
Overall, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 offers more power, better efficiency, and strong value for anyone looking to upgrade or switch to Mac.
