Sony Fixing To Launch Large-Screen Android Tablet In 2015 1H

Digitimes’ Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai report that Sony, which last February exited the laptop computer market with the sale of its VIAO PC-making unit to a group of JApanese investors, is now expected to launch a large-size tablet in the first half of 2015
going head-to-head with Samsung Electronics’ 12-inch GAlaxy Tab models and an expected 12-inch iPad from Apple. According to Digities’ sources in the related supply chain, the device will enter mass production shortly,

Lee and Tsai say Sony’s 12-inch or larger tablet is expected to target mainly the high-end segment, with a retail price that may exceed US$1,000, the the unnsmrd sources maintain, noting that while Sony has withdrawn from the PC market, it remains aggressive about the tablet product line.

The new Sony tablet’s manufacturer is expected to be manufactured Pegatron Technology, which also is the OEM for Apple’s iPad and Microsoft’s Surface tablets.

According to the rumor, the Sony tablet will feature a 12.9-inch 3,840-by-2,400-resolution display, a Qualcomm processor and 8-megapixel camera, with an enclosure thickness of 8.6 mm.

Lee and Tsai’s sources expect more vendors to launch large-size tablets in 2015, promotion of which is likely to impact demand for laptops, so hopefully for iPad fans, the rumored iPad Pro will debut in early 2015. A friend of mine who works in computer crime forensics tells me he’s very pleased with his new Galaxy Tab Pro tablet, and despite a lot of recent crepe-hanging about the future of tablet computers, it looks like large-screen tablets will be a dominant trend for the coming year.
