Samsung Releases iOS Messaging App

The Korea Times’ Kim Yoo-chul reports that Apple’s somewhat symbiotic corporate frenemy Samsung Electronics has released a new messaging app supporting Apple’s iOS mobile platform

The reporter notes that Samsung developed the intra-group messaging app, called “Square,” after shutting down its ChatON service everywhere except fpr the US last month, and unveiled the iOS version for its employees using iPhones.

Interestingly, Kim Yoo-chul cites an nnamed Samsung company official affirming: “We don’t force our workers to use Samsung devices and we respect our employees’ device selection,” adding that “The development of the iOS version is in consideration of the workers who use iPhones,” also noting: “The main purpose of the Square is to raise our presence in the business-to-business (B2B) mobile app market. For example, employees at Fedex, UPS and Coca-Cola check inventories and delivery schedules via iPads.”
