12-Inch MacBook Expected To Account For 15-20% of 2015 MacBook Shipments

Digitimes’ Rebecca Kuo and Alex Wolfgram report that according to their panel supply chain sources, Apple’s new 12-inch MacBook is projected to make up 15-20 percent overall MacBook series device 2015 shipments.

Earlier this week week Digitimes reported that d12-inch MacBook shipments will be limited to about 450,000 units in the first quarter of 2015 due to limited supply of Retina displays, but overall the new MacBook model is expected to be the largest source of Apple laptop sales growth throughout 2015.

Largely due to the slow production startup for the MacBook, Apple notebook shipments are expected to drop 25 percent sequentially in the 2015 first quarter — slightly worse than an average industry decline of 20 percent, but then to grow 30 percent in the second quarter, which would represent some of the highest on-quarter growth in the market, according to Digitimes Research.

Kuo and Wolfgram say that the second quarter, LG Display is expected to increase panel shipments and reestablish its status a leading provider of MacBook Retina displays following a transition from Samsung Display for the first batch of MacBooks set for release in April, and their sources report that LG Display is continuing to bump up capacity and working toward surpassing its current estimated supply of 100,000 MacBook Retina displays.
