Newsweek Launches iPhone App

The venerable weekly news magazine Newsweek, owned by IBT Media, has announced the launch of its first iPhone app. The new app is available through Apple’s App Store and will allow consumers to read the full weekly magazine in a custom layout optimized for smartphones for the first time.

“In under two years, we’ve entirely revamped Newsweek’s website, relaunched the magazine in print and have now turned our attention to an enhanced mobile experience,” says Etienne Uzac, CEO and Co-Founder of IBT Media. “Larger smartphones allow consumers to experience more on their phones, making this the perfect time to release the iPhone app.”

The iPhone app will be free for current Newsweek subscribers. New readers will get one free issue when they download the app, and can then purchase single issues for $4.99, a 1-month subscription for $3.99 or a 1-year subscription for $39.99. Subscribers will get each week’s full issue on Thursdays, one day ahead of print issues, which hits newsstands on Fridays.

Newsweek has been bringing high-quality journalism to readers around the globe for over 80 years, and provides the latest news, in-depth analysis and ideas about international issues, technology, business, culture and politics. In addition to its online and mobile presence, Newsweek publishes weekly English print editions in the United States, Europe/Middle East/Africa and Asia as well as editions in Japanese, Korean, Polish, Serbian, Spanish and Czech. Newsweek is owned by IBT Media.

“Our new app has a beautiful display for readers to enjoy not only our award-winning reporting, but all of the powerful images that fill the magazines’ pages each week,” says Johnathan Davis, Chief Content Officer and Co-Founder of IBT Media. “Ultimately, the vision for Newsweek is to be platform-agnostic, where subscribers can enjoy our content across existing, as well as exciting new applications.”
