All-in-one PC Shipments Projected To Drop Over 10% in 2015, But iMac Resistng Trend

Digitimes’ Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai report that all-in-one (AIO) PC shipments may drop a double-digit percentage on-year in 2015 due to weaker-than-expected demand, although second-largest AIO make Apple’s iMac shipments are expected to grow 5 percent on year in 2016, with its main iMac subcontractor, Quanta Computer, reportedly having increased its iMac production personnel for 2016

However Lee and Tsai say according to sources from the upstream supply chain AIO shipments in 2016 are unlikely to see any major growth and may stay flat from 2015, despite the mainland China government’s recent lifting of restrictions on opening Internet cafes in the country locally boosting demand for all-in-one PCs, with opportunity created to be mainly en joyed by second-tier and China white-box makers.

Lee and Tsai say that in the third quarter, Apple sold about 5.7 million iMacs and MacBooks, up four percent from the same quarter a year ago, noting that Apple, which continues to add new innovations to its iMac products, as opposed to other AIO PC vendors like Lenovo, HP and Dell, that have mainly focused on competing over price which could create a negative impact on their gross margins.
