Amazon’s Next-Generation Kindle Fire 2 Likely To Have An 8.9-Inch Display

Amazon’s Kindle Fire 7-inch display Android-based tablet-cum-ebook reader has yet to be released, but Digitimes’ Yenting Chen and Steve Shen report that the company os already changing its product roadmap for the Fire 2, which was originally projected to be a 10.1-inch machine, but it’s now anticipated that the next Amazon tablet will actually have an 8.9 inch screen, based on scuttlebutt from moles in Amazon’s supply chain.

Chen and Shen say Amazon’s current 7-inch panel suppliers Chunghwa Picture Tubes and LG Display reportedly have begun preparing production capacities for 8.9-inch displays, according to the insider sources.

However the reporters note that Amazon may also still release 9.7- to 10.1-inch Kindle Fire models in 2012.

Eight inch displays seem to be gaining traction in the tablet market, with Motorola announcing a new 8.2-inch “Media Edition” (http://snurl.com/2ij51n) of its Xoom 2 tablet last week.
