Smartwatches: This wristwatch meets smartphone hybrid is expected to be one of the biggest trends in the New Year according to a UBS Survey. Apple expects to move 25 million Apple watches in 2015 and that number is only expected to grow in the coming years.

3-D Printing: 3-D printing is making waves in fields beyond technology. Education, military, architecture and medical research fields are all taking notice of its unique capabilities. In fact, market share for 3-D printing technologies is expected to hit $8 billion in the next decade, Bolkman says.

Cloud Computing: Cloud computing software such as iCloud or Google Drive allow users to keep documents and other electronic files easily accessible. New operating systems such as Docker and Rocket allow users to build, test and deploy applications in a virtual, distributed server environment.

Cyber Security: With data breaches plaguing corporations like Target and Home Depot over the past year, companies will look to implement new security solutions and advanced risk assessments. Security will likely move into a multi-faceted approach to thwart hackers and increase self-protection.
