Global Smartphone Shipments Expected To Top 1.24 Billion Units In 2014

Digitimes’ Luke Lin reports that global smartphone shipments are expected to top 1.24 billion units in 2014, with Samsung Electronics, Apple, LG Electronics, Sony Mobile Communications, Lenovo, Huawei, Microsoft, ZTE, Coolpad and TCL serving as top-10 vendors, according to Digitimes Research, which says Apple may see its shipments double in 2014 largely due to increased shipments to China and Japan, as it will benefit from its cooperation with the largest telecom operators in the two countries, said Digitimes Research.

The report also says Samsung’s growth rate for will be limited in 2014, as its sales in the US, China and Japan will be depressed by growing popularity of iPhones.
